Available Horses

Below is a list of all equines that are currently available for adoption at Segunda Vida Equine Rescue. If you are interested in any of the horses, please fill out our adoption application or you can contact us for further information and pictures.

While the horses await their forever home, we offer them up for foster or off-site free lease. This enables the rescue to use the space to help another equine in need. If you are looking for a "first" horse or to get back in the saddle after a few years and jumping into owning is a little scary, why not look at free leasing or fostering. If we have a horse at the rescue that you feel may be a 'fit' for you, then this is a great option and everyone involved gets something out of it. You have a horse without the commitment of owning, the horse is being ridden and is happy to have a job and it frees a spot for us to save one more horse.

Please contact the Rescue for any further information about adoption, free lease or fostering.

Any information that Segunda Vida Equine Rescue is able to gather on any of the equines at our farm or sponsor farm(s) is sometimes limited. Horses and ponies that are surrendered will have more information about them in their previous home(s), whereas horses or ponies that are saved from feedlot or auction rarely come with any more information than their name, gender and sometimes an approximate age.

We also share any information that we have learned, from daily handling and interacting with the horses or ponies, with you so that you can more accurately decide if the equine you are interested in may be right for you and any future plans you might have for your new equine friend.

All horses and ponies being adopted through our rescue come with a contract and are microchipped to ensure their identity and safety.

If you have any questions regarding the rescue or an equine, please send us an e-mail with your phone number so we may respond to your inquiry promptly.

QUARTER HORSE MARE - THELMA -ADOPTION PENDING

Thelma is a 10-12 year old Quarter Horse mare, approximately 14.2hh   She is a very sweet girl who loves people and has a wonderful temperament.

Thelma was rescued from a slaughter bound feedlot just a mere 8 hours from being shipped with her 3-year old filly (Louise, also available for adoption) at her side.

Please contact the Rescue for more information about Thelma.

QUARTER HORSE/CLYDESDALE FILLY - LOUISE - ADOPTION PENDING

Louise is a 3-year old Quarter Horse/Clydesdale cross filly, approximately 15hh with room to grow. Louise is a friendly girl, but is a little apprehensive of sudden movements. She needs to learn what personal space means, but is not at all mean, just young and inexperienced.

Louise was rescued from a slaughter bound feedlot just a mere 8 hours from being shipped with her mom (Thelma, also available for adoption) at her side.

Please contact the Rescue for more information about Louise.

STANDARDBRED/PONY CROSS COLT - BOO BOO

Boo Boo is a 2-year old Standardbred cross colt. He is a solid bay with no markings and approximately 14.3hh.
He was rescued from auction in the summer of 2012 with his friend and paddock mate Yogi.

He is the product of 'Nurse Mares', where horses are bred so that they can produce milk and provide their milk to other more well-bred foals while their foals are weaned too early and given up or disposed of.

Boo Boo is on the small size and should mature to a medium/large pony height, it is believed that being weaned too early as well as being starved while in utero are contributing factors to his size and weight.
He currently lives outside 24/7 with a small herd of cows, a stallion and a couple of colts and geldings.
Boo Boo is an absolute love bug and loves attention. Boo Boo would do best with a stall in the winter months and some grain but is an easy keeper.

Boo Boo and Yogi have been together since they went through auction and we would love to see them adopted together, but we understand that may not be financially suitable for all adopters. We just want a loving home for Boo Boo where he will get the love and care he so desperately needs and should have received as a baby.

STANDARDBRED COLT - YOGI

Yogi is a 2-year old Standardbred colt. He is a bay with two white hind socks and is approximately 15hh.
He was rescued from auction in the summer of 2012 with his friend and paddock mate Boo Boo.

He is the product of 'Nurse Mares', where horses are bred so that they can produce milk and provide their milk to other more well-bred foals while their foals are weaned too early and given up or disposed of.

Yogi has a small blind spot in his right eye which does not hinder him in anyway.
He currently lives outside 24/7 with a small herd of cows, a stallion and a couple of colts and geldings.
Yogi loves attention and is the first to come up to you for some loving and he follows you around just wanting some affection. Yogi is an easy keeper.

Yogi and Boo Boo have been together since they went through auction and we would love to see them adopted together, but we understand that may not be financially suitable for all adopters. We just want a loving home for Yogi where he will get the love and care he so desperately needs and should have received as a baby.

THOROUGHBRED GELDING - WINSTON  --  ADOPTION PENDING

Winston is an 8-year old, 15.3hh Thoroughbred gelding. Winston is registered but his papers are not available.  Lineage is known.

Winston was rescued from a feedlot, bound for slaughter.

We believe Winston may have been a school horse in past years.

He goes w/t/c and has been ridden bare back with a lead rope he was also doing 2’3” jumps over the summer with a younger rider (early teens). He lives outdoors in a mixed herd, he has solid bone and great feet (is barefoot), is sound, no vices and in great health. Winston loves to be ridden and have a job.

Winston will require an intermediate rider/owner that understands his need for work and his (sometimes) inability to stand perfectly still, as some OTTB’s love to do. He would make a nice hunter or possible Western prospect.

APPALOOSA COLT - DYKX DREAM MARKO - BONSAI

DYKX Dream Marko

Bonsai is a 2-year old, 15.2hh, registered and papered Appaloosa colt, (currently a RIG). Bonsai is a speckled bay with a blanket and is quite the looker.

Bonsai was a slaughter bound feedlot rescue; he is a super sweet young boy with lots of colour.

Bonsai has nice ground manners and is in excellent health and weight. Bonsai currently lives outside 24/7 with two colts, hay only and no problems.
Bonsai is looking for his forever home.

APPY/WELSH CROSS MARE - SHELBY

Shelby is an 12-year old Appaloosa/Welsh pony cross, she is 13.2-13.3hh.

Shelby does love attention and loves to be ridden, but she is sore after and needs some time to rest. Shelby has a lot of energy and just wants to go and go, she will require a small experienced rider and time off between rides.

Shelby lives outdoors in a medium sized mixed herd with no problems. She gets a nice fuzzy coat in the winter.

Shelby is a sweet and friendly girl. Please contact the Rescue for more information.

APPY PONY MARE - BAILEY
THOROUGHBRED GELDING - FLIP

Flip is a gorgeous bay OTTB gelding, 17.1 hh. Flip is available for adoption and has been at the rescue completing his rehab time for the past 10 months for a torn hind suspensory ligament.

Flip goes w/t/c (race broke with light training started) and will require a rider who understands his limitations and how to properly restart an OTTB. Currently turned out in a small mixed herd during the day and stalled at night.
